The World-Friend

It is long overdue

That I reach out to you

For though our lives we’ve led

The bifurcated path of strangers

I have watched you from afar

At times I play the doe,

Fleet of foot and oft in fear

Sometimes that part is yours

And on and on we drift

For days at sea within our souls

And I wonder if you too

Find it funny how through

This aimless voyage, we

Bump into one another as if

To spite the laws of chance.

At any rate, I’m sure you do

For I can make you smile

By doing so myself

And I’m sure my bad moods

Have been kindling to yours

So you see, we are not

Lost souls within the maelstrom

Fallen branches once shared roots

Forked roads have a common source

Oh, but I won’t bore you

With philosophical discourse

I write only to say:

I find it odd, how familiar

A stranger can feel

When there is never

Any doubt they are friend
